We often have problems falling asleep in the summer, especially when the temperatures are high. The most common solution to this problem is to buy an air conditioner, but since this may be a costly alternative, we offer you some travel advice and suggestions to help you stay cool on the ensuing hot days.

Chilled Pillow: Your pillow should be wrapped in a plastic bag and kept in the refrigerator during the day. This might seem strange, but it cools the cushion down well without wetting it. When it’s time to go to bed, use the cool pillow as normal, or tuck it beneath your covers.

A Wet Towel on the Window: A damp or cold towel can be hung from the window to reduce the temperature in the space. This improvised air conditioner is surprisingly effective on hot nights.

Ventilator Ice Cubes:  Before going to bed, use an ice cube tray to cool your room in front of the ventilator. Although it seems like an easy trick, this decreases the temperature.

Eliminate Heat Sources: If you struggle to keep your room cool during the summer, remove any electronic devices that generate excess heat. This refers especially to devices charging, as they emit unnecessary heat and raise the room temperature.

Cold bathtub for your feet: Soak your feet in a cold bath before bed to not only cool off but also induce sleep. Cooling your feet prompts improved circulation, leading to relaxation and a calming effect on the entire body.

Wet Socks: Refresh yourself on hot nights by wearing socks that had previously been placed in the freezer. When they get cold enough put them on for a good night’s sleep.
