Actor and producer Brad Pitt shared some devastating news with his fans recently. The Fight Club star spoke to QG and revealed he’s been struggling to recognize people’s faces, a condition medically known as prosopagnosia or “face blindness.”
The well-known Hollywood star stated that although he hasn’t received an official diagnosis, he is positive that he has the illness in an alarming tone of voice. He claimed that the reason he is afraid is that others think he is “remote and aloof, inaccessible, self-absorbed” because he cannot remember faces. Pitt continued by saying he hoped to meet other sufferers of this illness.
“Nobody believes me,” Pitt was reported to have told the reporter, and it’s not hard to understand why.
In addition to the reality that the majority of people have never heard of “face blindness,” this illness is genuine and poses serious challenges to those who must live with it. Prosopagnosia is a neurological condition that can make people struggle to recognize even their family members or friends, according to the National Institute of Health. One in fifty people may be affected, according to a study.
According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Strokes, there is no link between learning disability, visual issues, or memory loss, and “face blindness.” Dani Blum describes the symptoms, causes, and treatments of the illness in a New York Times article. She notes that the disorder’s severity varies from person to person and that it “is not the same as forgetting or occasionally having trouble finding the correct word.”

The causes are often associated with brain trauma, stroke, or just a hereditary susceptibility. However, since the individuals who have it don’t appear to have any obvious structural abnormalities in the brain, medical professionals are unsure of the best course of action.
