Breastfeeding is a natural and beautiful process that helps create intimacy and bonding between the mom and her bundle of joy.
Moms shouldn’t feel guilty for feeding their children whenever and wherever they are hungry, but regrettably, some people criticize them because they think it’s improper or unacceptable for them to feed their children in public if they don’t use a cover. In 2018, while dining at a restaurant with her family and friends, Melanie Dudley, a mother of a 3-month-old child, noticed the infant wailing for food. Melanie, originally from Texas, immediately began nursing her son. While everyone was okay with it, it appeared that the stranger seated at the next table found it awkward that the mother was nursing her child without covering herself.
He approached Melanie and asked her to cover up. And well, she did just that, but in a manner that stranger expected.
”I was on vacation in Cabo San Lucas with my entire family, and a man asked me to cover myself. I’m usually discreet but we were seated in the back of the restaurant,” Melanie told Yahoo.
“I did have the cover on, but it was so hot. It was like, 95 degrees, and my baby was sweating,” the Texan told TODAY.
“I said, ‘You know what? I’m on vacation, I’m taking this off.’”
Melanie took the cover and put it on her head instead, having the entire restaurant bursting out in laughter.
I simply placed it above my head. I’m not sure why. It wasn’t even close to being a scandalous altercation. That was all I had to say. I was at a loss for words, so I decided to just hide my head,” the woman said. Carol Lockwood, a witness to the entire event, snapped a picture of Melanie and posted it online with the comment, “I’ve never met her, but I think she’s AWESOME!!!” (Please distribute! Many individuals backed Melanie’s actions and stood by her side. We firmly think that nursing is the most commonplace behavior and that a mother should never feel guilty about feeding her child in public.
